Burnt Hills field hockey survives shoot-out with South Glens Falls in Class B championship QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- It was a back-and-forth battle, but Burnt Hills captured the Class B Section title 4-3 over South Glens Falls. After trading goals in the first period, the Spartans found another gear and scored off the stick of Lily Mastrella giving them a 2-1 advantage. Later on, Addisyn Knapik saw an opportunity she couldn't refuse and struck with a goal of her own. Burnt Hills held a 3-1 lead at halftime. When the second came around South Glens Falls fought back, Mia Benincasa helped trim the Spartan's lead to one after scoring a goal. Burnt Hills wasn't phased and responded with another goal from Knapik. Despite that, the Bulldogs called upon Lillian Willis and she answered the call, cutting the Spartan's lead to one. In spite of that effort, Burnt Hills defense was able to hold the Bulldogs out to secure the Section title win.

(NEWS10) -- Top-seeded Guilderland field hockey beat out Saratoga to win the Class A sectional championship Sunday afternoon at Queensbury High School. Skylar Vanwormer tallied the first goal of the match to put Guilderland on the board. However, that was not the last time we would hear from her during the game. Before halftime, Vanwormer scored another goal, extending the Dutchmen's lead to 2-0. Saratoga would score late in the second half, but couldn't get past Guilderland's defense to score again. The Dutchmen now move on to regionals after securing the 2-1 win.

UAW announces deal with General Motors that tentatively ends strikes against Detroit automakers DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers union said Monday that it reached a tentative contract with General Motors, the last of the Detroit Three automakers to agree to a deal.Under the agreement reached early Monday at the union’s headquarters in Detroit, workers at all three companies will return to the job pending votes on whether to ratify the contracts, which will take place over the next two weeks.The GM deal follows tentative agreements reached with Ford on Wednesday and Jeep-maker Stellantis on Saturday. All three deals have to be voted on by the 146,000 union members who work at the Detroit companies.The union's targeted strikes against the companies began on Sept. 15.The main provisions of the deals are largely the same at all three automakers, but there are small differences. FDA says these eye drops could cause blindness U.S. health regulators are warning consumers not to use more than two dozen varieties of over-the-counter eyedrops because of the risk of infections that could lead to blindness.The Food and Drug Administration advisory applies to lubricating drops sold by six companies, including CVS Health, Target, Rite Aid and Cardinal Health. Consumers should stop using the products immediately and avoid purchasing any that remain on pharmacy and store shelves, the FDA said in a statement Friday.The agency asked the companies to recall their products last week, because FDA inspectors found unsanitary conditions and bacteria at the facility producing the drops. Deadly crash involving driver stops all traffic on NB 405 Freeway  A fatal crash involving several vehicles shut down the northbound 405 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley early Monday morning. Initial reports indicated that a wrong-way driver may have slammed into the center divider at Sherman Way around 4:30 a.m.The California Highway Patrol later said none of the vehicles were headed the wrong direction, but a 28-year-old Sylmar man in a 2004 Acura TL died after colliding with a 2020 Toyota Camry and 2022 Ford F-250."We did not see anybody being taken out of the vehicle [that crashed into the center divider] so this could turn out to be a fatality crash investigation," KTLA 5’s Rich Prickett said shortly after the collision.
